We have openings with one of our Client JPMORGAN CHASE at Bangalore for the position of SYbase DBA L2

       Total Experience: 4.5-8Yrs

       Job Location: Bangalore  

       Core Skills: SYbase DBA 12.5 Replication server AND IT infr

 

 
 
Sybase database administrator required to work in a global level 1 support team supporting Investment bank servers. This is a permanent staff position. The successful candidate will be cross trained to manage Oracle first line support in addition to their core skill set and as such has an opportunity to expand his knowledge and experience.
 
Working Hours
 
Staff will be required to work 4 days a week for an 11 hour day including 1 hour lunch break. Staff will be required to work shifts during the 24 x 7 day including public holidays which will be compensated with days in lieu.
 
Scope
 
The role acts as the first level of the JPM Infrastructure support operating model. This role will be responsible for receiving work requests, faults tickets and alerts for servers globally. Your responsibilities will include clearing tickets in all monitored systems, and ensure where possible that these tickets are cleared at 'first touch'. In particular, this role is responsible for the focused attention on clearing tickets promptly in a first class way, and capturing all relevant data surrounding the ticket to ensure a timely clear, and where relevant identify reoccurring issues. Referring to all sources of data including knowledge databases ensuring lessons learnt are recorded and controlled to assist in reducing repeat ticket occurrences. Managing the escalation of a ticket to the Level 2 and level 3 teams is a major aspect of the role
 
Specific Responsibilities
 
Reporting to the L1 Technical Support Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for:
Hands-on technical support including:
 
  • Ensuring support issues are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Receiving support calls from AD teams on the phone or from automated systems
  • Providing Sybase DB start of day checks and start of week checks on all global servers
  • Server reboot checks and remediation
  • Post Application Release support
  • Technical problem solving
  • Opening and Routing tickets to other teams at the start of an incident
  • Liaising with the IB CCC control centre
  • On-boarding production servers using the Automated on-boarding process
  • Monitoring of Alerts and remediation of incidents
  • Closure of tickets in a timely manner
  • Checking automated schedules have run and fixing failed schedules
  • Security & Audit compliance - to work with IRM group to ensure FSA standards are upheld.
  • Service Requests - Manage client/peer support groups change and problem requests via management queue.
  • Expanding knowledge of JPM systems and applications
  • Debugging script and stored procedure code
  • Escalation of any Capacity Thresholds breached
  • Monitoring alert logs, trace files to check Database health and corruption

Mandatory Technical Skills

 

  • Sybase 12.5 and above
  • Basic understanding of replication
  • Good Knowledge of database creation, log segments, disk initialization, disk mirroring, taking backups of databases and restoring in case of failure. Maintaining physical and logical devices.
  • Knowledge of DBCC configuration and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Replication Server Environments.
  • MS SQL Server 2000 and above
  • Manage Database maintenance jobs (scheduled tasks).
  • Strong SQL
  • Understanding of Perl, Shell scripts
  • Knowledge of Solaris, Linux
  • Strong UNIX understanding  & command line skills

 

Desirable Skills

 

  • Exposure to Java
  • Veritas - Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster, Veritas FS, QuickIO - version 3.x & 4
  • Operating system installations via JumpStart/kick start and Red Hat network
  • EMC CX-320, NAS and SAN storage solutions
  • VM ware experience
  • Experience with SSH and its configuration

 

Experience Required

 

Excellent technical knowledge gained from a hands on role within a global organisation. Skills must be current and include;
Minimum of 2 years' experience of Sybase with replication in a mission critical environment

Qualifications/Education Preferred

 

  • Sybase certifications
  • Minimum of degree level education
  • ITIL Knowledge
